His Holiness Jayapataka Swami is one of the senior most sannyasi disciples of His Divine Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada and a member of the Governing Body Commission for ISKCON.
In 1968, he took first initiation in Montreal, Canada and was given the name Jayapataka Dasa brahmachari and he was very soon awarded 2nd initiation in New York. HH Jayapataka Maharaj, began to render a number of services for ISKCON and Srila Prabhupada. The first most important service he rendered was that of president of ISKCON Montreal. He was engaged in the service of printing books and dispatching them to other ISKCON Centers around the world. Under the order of Srila Prabhupada, his service to the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust continued in India and continues until today.
Within 6 months on the instruction of Srila Prabhupada, HH Jayapataka Swami went to Toronto to start ISKCON in Toronto and was the first temple president of ISKCON Toronto. After six months on the instructions of Srila Prabhupada he went to India to start the Mayapur chapter of ISKCON.
Srila Prabhupada had the vision of a Temple of the Vedic Planetarium in Mayapur. He was talking to the scientists and telling them to figure out the 5th canto of the Srimad Bhagavatam and build the planetarium and he also told HH Jayapataka Maharaj, “I have given you the kingdom of God. Now develop it”. HH Jayapataka Maharaj took this statement seriously and spent many years in fulfilling this desire of Srila Prabhupada. Today Mayapur Dham is the world head quarters of ISKCON and is amongst the most opulent and frequented temples of ISKCON in the world.
HH Jayapataka Swami was one of the youngest disciples of Srila Prabhupada who was given sanyasa at the age of 21 years. He tirelessly travels to all parts of the world and even trouble ridden countries to give the mercy of Krishna consciousness to one and all.
In October 2008 HH Jayapataka Swami suffered a massive stroke in Mumbai, India, and was hospitalized for several months. Under the protection of Srila Prabhupada and the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna, he made a miraculous recovery. He is still undergoing therapy to fully recover from the stroke. Despite his health condition, he is still travelling around the world to help fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s mission in spreading Krishna consciousness.
We invite all of you to please come and take his association and blessings in Mississauga and Toronto!
