Upcoming functions/events at ISKCON Scarborough during the month of August/September:

Jhulan yatra: This year the festival begins on August 19, 2010 and ends on August 24, 2010.

At ISKCON Scarborough we will celebrate this festival on August 20th(Friday) - 6.30 pm, 21st(Saturday) - 6.30 pm, 22nd(Sunday) - 10.30 am



In Sri Vrindavan for five days, in many of the 5000 temples there, the small Utsav-vighraha functional Deities (Vijay-utsav bera) are taken from the altar and placed on an elaborately decorated swing in the temple room. After receiving the traditional arati worship, the Deities are pushed on Their swing. Members of the congregation are invited to participate. Each person offers flower petals and personal prayers, and then pushes the swing several times as the other members chant Hare Krishna, Jaya Radhe Jaya Krishna Jaya Vrindavan, or Jaya Radhe, Jaya Jaya Madhava dayite in kirtan. The atmosphere of this festival is especially sweet as everyone has the chance to intimately serve Radha and Krishna.

Balarama Purnima:

Lord Balarama is the adi-guru, the original spiritual master. In Caitanya Lila, Lord Balarama appears as Lord Nityananda, the bestower of mercy to even the most fallen conditioned soul. Therefore His appearance as the son of Rohini and Vasudeva is celebrated by devotees with great jubilation.

Balarama-purnima also marks the end of Jhulan-yatra

1st September- Wednesday - Janmastami. As celebrations will take place at ISKCON Toronto on 1st Sept, we at ISKCON Scarborough will celebrate Janmastami on Friday -3rd September 2010.

6th September- Monday - Lobour day - holiday - 5 hour Harinam Sankirtan aboard a ship - cruise starts at 12.30 pm

11th September- Saturday - 6.30pm- Swathi Natchatra celebration - Special Abhishek to Lord Narasimhadev

15th September - Wednesday - Radhastami.As celebrations will take place at ISKCON Toronto on 15th September, we at ISKCON Scarborough will celebrate Radhastami on Friday -17th September 2010.

19th September - Sunday- Lord Vamanadev's appearance day. Celebrations start at 10.30 am
